“The whole life of the good Christian is
a holy longing. What you desire ardently, as yet you do not see…by withholding
of the vision, God extends the longing, through longing he extends the soul, by
extending he makes room in it. Let us long because we are to be filled…that is
our life, to be exercised by longing. ”
~ St. Augustine
~ St. Augustine
1. Lord, I am a barren waste without You. Send the latter rain that I may rejoice in your mercies, that may sing with gladness of your joyous refreshing.
2. The brightness of your coming is my strength and salvation. You alone are the springs of life that bring Life to my life. Yes, that I might flourish and give of your overflowing grace.
3. There are songs in the desert. The rocky crags ring out with echos of ages past, "God's mercies endure forever." Even the depths of my soul cry out the same.
4. I see a cloud, the size of my hand, it shall become the joy of my deliverance, as your rushing waters replenish my soul. I shall bloom with the fragrance of your presence, an Oasis of your love.
5. Lord, yes, there is always longing in my soul for you. I am easily filled to overflowing of you. You well up in me, springs of "living water", my cup runs over.
6. How is it that I continue to long for you, when I am full? What did you mean when you said, "to drink of the water You give" I would never thirst again?
******
"My child; It is the longing that gives rise to the everlasting springs of Life. These springs are the praises of such longing. From glory to glory, from thirst to thirst, such longing shall only bring forth more longing, more praise, more refreshing, more longing.
It was such that called me apart into my Father's presence, into our "Oneness." It was the Alpha that sprang into the Omega.
Come and drink of the waters of Life that spring forth in longing unto praise. Partake of the fullness of ever increasing longing. As the desert longs for the latter rain."
